THis is one of the main four traditional Portuguese apple cultivars that come from the central region of Portugal. In traditional agriculture, these were large trees, isolated in multi-crop lands.
There are supposed to be around twenty varieties in the malapio.

In general, the fruit has an elongated shape, different in colour depending on the variety. Crunchy, juicy, tasty flesh, very good shelf life.
